When problems arise in our nation, we are left with a complicated crisis as to whose job it is to do what and who exactly should be taking care of any bad situation that seems to pop up with daily life anywhere in the world, but in this case, America. Certain governmental systems, such as Federalism, can be considered a solution to these crises. Federalism can be defined as the relationship between the individual state governments of America and the national or federal government of the United States; and works to balance the power of a large central government, and the power of the smaller regional governments. Federalism is defined in our book as: â€Å"the relationship between the centralized national government and the individual state governments† (Berman and Murphy 92). Federalism is a very important government system that is frequently discussed and argued, even today. The topic of federalism has become a topic of argument because many people believe the federal governm ent should have more power, and yet some other people believe the states should have most of the power. Many a times, offences committed are by people who fall under the definition of youth or juvenile in a State. The Children and Youth Person Act, 1933 determines the rules and regulation of youth justice system in United Kingdom (Sharkey and Sharkey, 2010). It is clear in Section 50 of the said Act that no child under the age of 10 years will be guilty for any offence. Thus, the criminal responsibility of a child begins when he turns 10 years until 18 years of his age. The main motive behind having such legislature is to prevent children from re-committing crimes and to safeguard the future of some juvenile offenders by keeping them away from the adult criminal justice system. The Youth Justice System is an established legislature in the United Kingdom, regulated by the Government, which has made special provisions for proper care of juvenile offenders and their interactions with the system. Section 45 of The Children and Youth Person Act, 1933 provides provisions for juvenile courts (Haines and OMahony, 2006). The Crime and Disorder Act, 1998 under the United Kingdom laws has introduced a new custodial sentence called the Detention Training Order (DTO) which is applicable to only young. The same is again decided into the Secure Training Home (STH) and Secure Training Order (STO) (Newburn, 2012). The said homes were to provide a youth offender who commits any crime the learning that it needed to became a well-behaved and better citizen of the nation (Hadfield, 2009). However, Even after all these legislative filters, the Government is not hundred percent successful in developing the overall character of these young offenders and in the process of their entry into this system, their innocence along with their freedom is somewhat hampered (Burnett and Roberts, 2013). A major loophole in the youth justice system is clear in the case of Adam Rickwood, who became the youngest child in United Kingdom to die in States custody on August 2004. Adam Rickwood was 14 years old when produced to the Youth Justice Board for the charges of stabbing a nineteen-year-old boy. Adam Rickwood denied the offences but on investigation was guilty and sent to Hassockfeild Secure Training Centre (STC) that was 116 miles away from his house without the judges knowledge that the said child had history of causing self-hurt and committing suicide. He committed suicide after four adult carers in the STC restrained him. The SCT and the whole system were at fault for this event t o take place. Adams lawyers argued that it was illegal to send Adam to the remand house as it was his first offence. This case brings many questions in the functioning of the youth justice system (Czyz et al 2013). The basic aim of having a structural policy for youth justice is to prevent the young offenders from offending again and to provide them with a safe place in case of Custody. If the State fails to provide the same, like in the above case, it is necessary to make reforms in the youth justice system (Burnett and Roberts, 2013). The most important objective of this system is to develop the physical, mental and social well-being of these offenders at a young age to prevent them from becoming serious anti-social elements and criminals in the future. The European convention on children clearly states in its Article 24 that the Government should do all it can to attain the highest form of standard for children in the State which includes the childs emotional as well as mental health. It further states the Governments duty to protect each child from all types of abuses and violence. These are some universally regulated policies, which the government needs to keep in mind while sentencing a j uvenile criminal to remand house or while giving any detention and training orders (DTO). As opined by Stephenson, Giller and Brown (2010), the government needs to understand that a youth who are committing offences needs security with treatment more than punishment. The system needs to make sure that only youth committing serious offences need sentenced to go to secure training centres. One major reason for this is that the mental health of a young offender is more prone to mental disorders and depression. Offenders at a hinder age, usually away from home become more violent thus; the way the children spend their time in the STCs should feature teaching them how to become law-abiding citizens (Czyz et al. 2013). If an offender develops any signs of mental disorder or depression, the same needs to be death with utmost care and with a help of a professional in a field who have experience in handling the needs of such a special child. The basic loophole is in diagnosis of these mental disorders and lack of the awareness to transfer such offenders suffering from the same to appropriate institutions. Another issue in the youth justice system in United Kingdom is that of racism (Newburn, 2012). There is profound racism against the Black and Asian juveniles in United Kingdom compared to the Whites even though both have committed the same offence. Racism starts with the system as blacks are considered eligible to be tried under the adult justice system ignoring their age and are more likely to be sentenced for a longer period compared to their white counterpart. The discrimination that starts with the system continues in the custody too where all juvenile are kept. These loopholes made the activist of youth justice system to come up with ASSET, assessment toll, developed by the Youth Justice Board introduced to calculate and eliminate the risks in the Youth Justice system (Hadfield, 2009). This toll looked critically into every childs offence and identified the reasons for the behaviour like bad company, lack of education, disturbed household or mental disorders. The information collected by ASSET is beneficial to make reports that the Court considers, while making future amendments in the sentences of the juvenile. The same report also helps the STCs as it is a detailed analysis of every problem related to the offender from its offence to mental health to development thus, this report makes the STCs work on improving their techniques to reform a child on individual basis. If the bill is so great, how is it that our private information is still getting out there? Well, lets take a closer look. According to an article that I found through Yahoo!, companies are using the consumers information as a company asset just in case the company was to go bankrupt. In the article it talks of how Amazon.com has reviewed it privacy policies and has decided to just get ready to sell anything they have on a consumer, such as; names, shipping and billing addresses, credit card numbers, e-mail addresses, employers, gift wish lists, Social Secur i ty Numbers and so on and so forth. Isnt that scary, one day, a company is doing fine, getting all the information that they can on a person and saying that all information is secured, then the next day, they are going bankrupt and selling the informa t ion to whoever has the largest bid. Who wouldve thought that when you went to buy that thing you really wanted off the Internet, your information was being stored so it could be sold? How thoughtless of them. I feel that if the government was so worried about the consumer enough to pass a bill protecting the consumers information, they should be enforcing it. What these companies are doing is illegal and immoral. I feel that they should be punished for their crimes, but in a way tha t doesnt put them in jail, we already have enough people in there. Make them pay, literally, for what they have done. Pay the consumer what they got for their information. Also, if the consumer agrees to let others sell their information, shouldnt they get a piece of that? After all, it is their life that is being sold. The world has become a greedy world. The reconstruction of the south did not however work out smoothly for the freed slaves. There were many roadblocks along the way such as the Black Codes, the Plessy vs. Ferguson case and the terror of the Ku Klux Klan. The 14th amendment gave the freed slaves citizenship and some voting rights. From the reconstruction the 14th amendment the black Codes and the Plessy vs. Ferguson case all had significance on the status of African Americans from reconstruction to 1900. The radical republicans method of reconstruction called for an amendment that would do three things. Extend citizenship for all people. Punish the southern representation in the house if they didnt allow black voting, and not allowing and former confederates to hold office. These three things made up the 14th amendment. Also in the radical republican recon struction plan was the idea of station military in the south. This was very effective in giving the blacks their rights. Unfortunally when the military left the rights of the blacks went with them. The white supremacists treated the south as 2nd class people and were not given opportunities to get any jobs but manual labor. Also the KKK was formed to scare away blacks from voting and keep them in their so-called place, the plantation. I am returning to Ivy Tech Community College once again to work on achieving my RN, registered nursing degree. I attended Ivy Tech Community College from the year I graduated high school in 1990 until 1992 when I received a Technical Certificate in Medical Assisting. I am a divorced, single mother of three children that include 2 boys, ages 9 years old and four years old and a daughter, age 13 and a half, going on 25. I seemed to be going back to school when an upheaval of some sort happened in my life. This just happened to be one of those times. I was married to my children’s father, Paul, for five years before he became employed by the Chrysler Corporation in the fall of 1999. I at the time was employed as Medical Receptionist, for New Castle Pediatrics and was pregnant with our second child. After working in the medical field for six years Paul and I decided it would be a good idea if I stayed home with the now 2 children. So, that’s what I did. It was the early winter of 2006 and life as I knew it was about to change in a big way. Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, Indiana where Paul was employed was being sold to a company named Metaldyne. Paul had the choice to stay employed at Metaldyne and take a â€Å"buy-out† from Chrysler or transfer to another Chrysler Plant possibly in another state. Paul had put in for a transfer to the Kokomo, Indiana plant, but due to his seniority Paul was forced to take a transfer to a Chrysler Plant in another state. Our family made a decision that we would put our home in Spiceland, Indiana, up for sale and Paul’s job would relocate to the Belvidere, Illinois Chrysler plant. We placed our home for sale and six months had passed with no offers for a buyer of our home in Spiceland. Paul and I were even making trips to Illinois, trying to find a home for us before he was to report to work in January of 2006. After talking to many realtors in Illinois and having our credit checked to purchase a home close to the Chrysler plant, our options of buying or renting a home for our family was looking bleak. As time continued to pass, the time for Paul to report to work in Illinois was drawing nearer. As our home still had a for sale sign in the front yard, Paul left the children and I behind hoping the house would sell and we could all join him soon to be reunited as a family. As the months started slipping by, Paul was working in Illinois and I was at home raising our three children. Paul and I started growing farther and farther apart, as husband and wife, and also as a family. It started seeming as if Paul was beginning a new life in Illinois basically without his family. He started calling and coming home less and less. Paul’s actions were telling me that we, as husband and wife, had another life altering decision to talk about making. It was now the Spring of 2006 and Paul and I had decided, after much consideration, we would divorce. He wasn’t sure he wanted â€Å"us† in his new life. I, now, going to be a single mother and not having worked in 6 years had some changing to do myself. As I scanned the computer and newspaper ads for jobs wanting a medical assistant, all the advertisements wanted were Certified Medical Assistants. So, back to Ivy Tech I went. I wanted to take the medical assisting review course to become certified. In doing this I hoped it would increase my changes of finding a job to support the 3 children and myself. Along with the certification review course, I also took â€Å"Phlebotomy 101†. I had always been interested in the more invasive aspects of my profession, and to receive financial aid, I also needed 3 more credit hours. â€Å"Phlebotomy 101† sounded like the course for me. For those who do not know what phlebotomy is, it is the technique used to draw blood from patients and the blood is used for laboratory testing. I enjoyed phlebotomy very much since it was a hand’s on experience. Our class was taught how to draw blood using proper techniques, and the correct color of tubes that are used for different types of lab testing. We began practicing drawing blood on a fake arm filled with a blood-like substance. Later, we had to draw blood on each other, yes our classmates! We drew names out of a hat of fellow classmates. The name we chose was the person whom we would be doing our live blood draw on. We had to have at least one successful â€Å"stick†, blood draw in order to pass the course. We chose our names from the hat and an older gentleman had drawn my name. After seeing who had drawn my name, he came to me and proceeded to tell me how nervous he was and how he was sorry to tell me this , but â€Å"I have the beginning stages of Parkinson’s disease†, Parkinson’s disease causes shakiness, I thought to myself. I then too was starting to become nervous for the both of us! As I took the blood-drawing chair, watching the shaking men prepare the equipment to draw my blood, I think I started shaking. He felt for my vein, and with shaky hands came toward my arm. Thankfully he got the needle in my vein on the first stick! Needless to say, I had quite a bruise on my arm the next day from the shaking needle in my arm. Stewardship in turn is our relationship with our fellow man or community. This is the beginning of a time honored and quintessential theme of the Bibles Old Testament. This is the Cycle of Baal. The cycle, in short, is the story of the reoccurring human drama of finding God and losing him, only to return at the lowest point and be redeemed by our ever faithful Creator in fulfillment of His covenant. So, in the beginning when God promised the people of Israel land and prosperity for the generations to come, there was a cohesive sense of duty to ones community. Even when people prospered, scripture and law commanded them that they must not keep to themselves, but reach out to the anawim or the poor. Through this divine request the people could be given knowledge of Gods purpose for his creation. Creation itself, the animals, plants, etc, is not ours to own, but ours to keep. Keep in every sense of the word meaning to honor and protect. With this comes great responsibility and duty. If part of His creation or His gift to us starts to suffer, then the whole shall be held responsible until it is made right again. We are all in it together, which if this was taken more seriously, more people today would be well and prospering. American Express Essay Bonnie Wittenburg, the plaintiff in this case filed an age discrimination lawsuit against American Express Financial Advisors, Inc. ’s (AEFA). AEFA filed a motion for summary judgment, the district court granted and the United States Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit affirmed. Wittenburg started working at AEFA Equity Investment Department (EID) in November 1998 at the age of 46 (Walsh, 2011). According to the portfolio managers, Wittenburg provided outstanding service and displayed excellent investment skills and in 2000, she was name Analyst of the Year (Walsh, 2011). In 2001, AEFA hired a new Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and 2002 the CIO initiated a redesign of EID. The project would take approximately two years; add an additional three portfolio managers, a new satellite office and the merger or movement of certain funds to AEFA’s satellite office (Walsh, 2011). During a discussion regarding new hires, the CIO stated he was not averse to hiring younger managers or analysts to grow with the company (Walsh, 2011). The new design plan would include a reduction in force (RIF) which according to the CIO was necessary. The first RIF terminated Al Henderson, age 62. Henderson made a comment that Dan Rivera told him that AEFA fired him because the company wanted to retain the younger employees (Walsh, 2011). The second RIF eliminated three analyst positions but primarily focused on portfolio managers. During the second RIF, a team of managers reviewed about 25 people in the department giving each a rating of keep, maybe keep, maybe, maybe drop or drop (Walsh, 2011). They used the ratings to educate leaders about the individuals in the department and in late 2002 held a meeting to discuss employee ratings. Wittenburg received a low rating because of poor performance and negative input provided by portfolio managers but continued in her current position during the second RIF. Wittenburg along with two other analysts were terminated when the third RIF occurred; Wittenburg was 51 and the other two were 41 and 36. Wittenburg applied for a portfolio manager, she did not get the position and sued AEFA claiming Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) (Walsh, 2011). Wittenburg’s defense would rely on statements from co-workers such as â€Å"those that were younger† â€Å"not averse to hiring younger portfolio managers† and notes that indicated the analyst department would maybe add a junior person. In making a decision, the court will consider if the statements were made by decision makers or by someone who may influence the decision to terminate the plaintiff, the gap between statements and the date of termination, and if the statement itself was discriminatory or merely an opinion. The CIO’s comment regarding the company’s willingness to hire younger workers was a general comment. The statement was not discriminatory nor did it establish that age was the basis for Wittenburg’s termination over a year ago. The reference to adding a junior person did not show discriminatory intent and Wittenburg did not prove the employee equated junior person to a younger person or how such a notation related to her termination. Wittenburg admitted that Rivera was not a decision maker in the 2003 RIF and his statement made to Henderson did not relate to her termination. The court decided that these comments did not establish a pretext based on AEFA’s nondiscriminatory purpose given for her termination. A total of 31 analyst were affected by the 2002 and 2003 RIF, 17 of the analyst were 40 years old or older and of the 17, six were terminated, four resigned and seven retained their jobs (Walsh, 2011). In addition, there were four terminated, two resigned, two transferred and six retained their positions of the 14 analysts who were not in the protected class (Walsh, 2011). There were two members, ages 41 and 46, of the protected class who ranked first and second during the 2002 analyst ratings and the two analyst terminated in 2003 were both younger than Wittenburg, one was 41 and the other 36 (Walsh, 2011). Another analyst in the protected class whose age was the same as Wittenburg survived the 2003 RIF. Wittenburg’s accusation that scores were manipulated to retain younger employees during the 2002 RIF by ranking them in the â€Å"keep† category even though their scores were low was actually a moot point as she survived the 2002 RIF even though her score was low putting her in the maybe keep category. AEFA stated they needed only one Technology Sector analyst and then redistributed the workload amongst other employees, Wittenburg argues that pretext was shown however, as stated by the court, â€Å"employers often distribute a discharged employee’s duties to other employees performing related work for legitimate reasons† (Walsh, 2011). As far as the two vacancies, those were among the 10 analysts who had survived the RIF, they were not new positions (Walsh, 2011). The decision to downsize and redesign the Equity Investment Department was for the betterment of the company. Wittenburg’s argument that AEFA only relied on her 2002 performance review in making their decision to terminate does not help her case. The court noted there is nothing discriminatory in an employer choosing to rely on recent performance data in deciding which employees to RIF (Walsh, 2011). American Express had not been doing very well and the CIO explained analyst’s performance evaluations on an annual basis are important because consumers look at one-year performance and make decisions (Walsh, 2011).

Two Main Categories of Collaboration The first thing I noticed about the subject of collaboration is that it is huge—there are as many styles, types, methods, rationales, theories, benefits and drawbacks as there are theorists and scholars. Additionally, almost no one appears to agree on even such simple matters as terminology (Is it collaborative writing or collaborative learning? Is it peer response, review, or editing?), let alone on actual application and practice. As Kenneth Bruffee states in â€Å"Collaborative Learning and the ‘Conversation of Mankind,’† an essay many supporters and detractors of collaborative writing hearken back to time and time again, his essay â€Å"offers no recipes† because there are no recipes for effectively adding collaborative writing to an English classroom (394). There are merely guidelines for successful collaboration and rationales supporting or denying the usefulness of incorporating collaborative writing. Nowadays you hear about people cheating on each other and think of it as nothing. In the time period T.H. White’s, The Once and Future King was set, it was a crime as sinful as killing a person. Guenever is a heartless and conniving woman, who gets away with ‘murder’, just because she is the Queen of England. Throughout the book, Guenever is characterized as weak and evil, because her decisions and behavior affect Arthur, Lancelot, and herself negatively. To begin, Guenever manipulates Lancelot’s feelings. She is the majority of his problems and dilemmas. Lancelot tries not to betray Arthur’s trust and save his virtue, but his love for Guenever is making his decisions that much harder. She would tell him to â€Å"’Come back soon’† (340) and leave as she pleased. It affects Lancelot’s ability to maintain his integrity, because Guenever is confusing him, by giving him mixed signals. She makes him think about going against Christianity and the idea of chivalry, two things that he lives by. â€Å"You have won him, and you have broken him. What will you do with him next?† said Elaine (396). Lancelot is confused and he can’t focus on anything other than Guenever, no matter where he is. She is breaking him down emotionally, to the extent where he starts hating himself for loving her. Then, when Guenever finds out about Lancelot and Elaine sleeping together in her castle, she goes ballis tic. â€Å"’Get out of my castle,’ screamed the queen at the top of her voice. ‘Never show your face in it again, your evil, ugly, beastlike face,’† (395). Having his beloved say this to him causes him to lose it, leading him to jump out of the window. No one knew what happened to him. A couple of years later when Lancelot was living with Elaine, the mother of his child... ...y close friends. In all, twenty knights were killed, including Gaheris and Gareth, who were unarmed. Their deaths and the Guenever’s illegitimate relationship are grounds to begin a war on. This war eventually leads to King Arthur’s death. Guenever made Arthur’s life more difficult, rather than supporting him like a good wife should have. Guenever not only affects Arthur and Lancelot negatively throughout their lives, but also numerous people around her. She is Arthur’s and Lancelot’s largest weakness. Guenever gets herself and the people around her into trouble, and makes their lives miserable in some way or another. Ultimately Guenever’s bad judgment and decisions made she was the source of a lot of problems and controversies. Cheating on someone you love was much more scandalous in that period of time than it is now, but it is still not the right thing to do.

Crimes like these have caused people to ponder the question: Should parents be responsible, legally and financially for crimes committed by their children under eighteen? Some believe that parents should not be held accountable for the crime their child commits.Others believe that parents should be responsible for their children’s actions. Parents should be held responsible for their children’s crimes because parents should teach their children what is right from wrong at a young age and they should be more involved in their children’s lives and be concerned with the people and places that he or she is associated with. On the other hand, some people determine that if a child under eighteen commits a crime, their parents should not take resp onsibility for it.When parents discipline a child too much, the child is likely to be rebellious and go against their parents’ wishes. There are parents that have done all that they could and in spite of that, their child gets into criminal activity. The opposing view also believes that even when parents are involved in their child’s life, there are other factors that corrupt a child into committing crime. Society and the media have a great influence on how children act. Peer pressure is another factor that may cause a child to commit a crime.Overall, a parent cannot control their child’s decisions and should not be held liable for their children’s actions. Parents also have the responsibility of elucidating what is right from wrong to their children so that their children can grow up to become successful individuals. bright size life essays The piece of music that I chose to write my project on is "Bright Size Life" collaboration by Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny and Bob Moses. This can be found on Pat Methenys debut album also titled Bright Size Life which was released in 1976 by EMC. This uplifting piece of music is an example of Jazz music at its finest. The three artists perfected the idea of improvisation while following a common theme and in doing so, created a timeless work of art. The role of each musician is just as important as the other. In this piece, Jaco Pastorius is on the bass, Pat Metheny is on the guitar and Bob Moses on the drums. It is hard for one to fathom that just three people can create such depth and variation using only three instruments, but that is precisely what the essence of jazz is. In this paper, I will try to show you how each of the three instruments create a different level of depth, harmony and color. Each artist brings something different of his own to the song, while allowing the others to do the same. ...Moses on the drums, hes keeping that motion going for us, propelling us, prodding us with different accents on different parts of the drum set, but above all hes always maintaining that pulse for us Les Sabina stated in the Spring concert of 2001. I think this is actually the same Moses that plays the drums in Bright Size Life, but no first name is mentioned. However, this quote does apply to the song regardless. Through out the entire song, the drums keep a constant pace or pulse for the other musicians to play off of. There are sections of the song where he only uses the cymbals. He is doing this to add momentum or color to that specific area of the song. If you listen in the beginning, he starts off only using cymbals with a little foot pedal, to pick up the momentum. Masterpieces and Metapictures essays ARHT Masterpieces and Metapictures Essay In Jean Baudrillards publication, Absolute Merchandise, Baudrillard explores French poet and art critic, Charles Baudelaires, ideas on the modern art, supporting these with Andy Warhols Pop Art. By doing so, Baudrillard discusses the essence of modern art and addresses the orthodox notion that art is rapidly being corrupted and degraded by a commercial, vulgar, capitalist, advertising society (Baudrillard, 1988, pp. 18). Through Baudelaire, Baudrillard implies that this is not necessarily the case, the traditional art concept being outdated within the context of modern society. In fact, he suggests, the salvation of art is embedded within the alienation of the aesthetic values traditional artwork concepts were founded on. Baudrillard refers to this as the relentless pursue (of) the indifference and equivalence of mercantile value (Baudrillard, 1988, pp.18), which, in effect, transforms the artwork into what he calls absolute merchandise (Baudrillard, 1988, pp.18). Baudrillard begins this article by indicating that art is caught up in the process of its own disappearance (Baudrillard, 1988, pp.18). To Baudrillard, much of modern art is based on disappearance, in particular, the disappearance of meaning; as the acknowledgement of the nothing is essential for the virtue of modern art. Whilst many critics argued that the treat of mercantile value would reduce the work of art to the status of a mere object (Baudrillard, 1988, pp.18), Baudrillard argues, with respect to Baudelaire that art cannot seek to revive itself in the critical posture of denial (Baudrillard, 1988, pp.18), which will demean it to the state of art for arts sake.
